Hi and Happy Holidays.I recently had my quick launch toolbar moved by AOL from next to the start button to the other side by the clock.I cant get it to return to the position next to the clock. There is no space between the start button and the toolbar to create a new one and it won't let me drag the toolbar.I tried deleting the quick launch and creating a new one but it keeps defaulting to the clock side. How can I return it to the start button,(left),side?
    Thanks in advance!

Im hoping I have this right, so here we go...

First, lets understand what these areas are called:

Left side is the "Quick Launch". It is next to the start button and has icons for launching programs.

Right side is the "System Tray". It has the clock and many accessible running programs, usually that load at startup.

You do not need it in the system tray, it wastes resources, so keep it out of the system tray.

As for Quick Launch, find the AOL icon and drag it to the Quick Launch and it will remain there.

To restore the Quick Launch, which you say is missing next to the start button, right click an empty area to the right of the start button and select properties. Look for the check that says "show quick launch" and be sure it is checked and select ok. It should now be back.

Ok,I knew I made it confusing.First I should tell you that I'm running Win2k.The quicklaunch toolbar used to be right next to the start button and the quicklauch icons were just to the right of start. It is now just to the left of the system tray.I want to move it back so that the quick launch programs are just to the right of the start menu.It won't let me drag the bar on that side and it won't let me create a new quicklaunch anywhere but just to the left of the system tray.I tried going into properties like you said but did not see any choices for quick launch.I think this is still confusing but I'm hoping a little more clear. Thanks!

Tough to figure out, yet somehow so simple :) Usually if you right click on the taskbar area and make sure "lock the toolbars" is inchecked you can drag around the edge. Typically you got where you are by accidentally dragging one of the ends. Heres the problem. I never really used 2K, so you need to figure out what I suggested as XP is based off 2K, it is similar. Maybe someone with 2K can help me and tell us what it is called?

Tried the ideas you mentioned again-still not working. Also the "lock toolbars" option is no longer there. Is there maybe a restore default setting? Anybody out there have a similar problem and know what to do?

I used 2000 and had this problem, but I can't remember how I fixed it. :(. Let's walk through it somemore....
You say there is no "Lock Toolbars" option when you right click on the taskbar on the bottom of your screen? Hmmm. Make sure you aren't right-clicking on the quicklaunch, rather, right-click on the blank area of the toolbar. When you right-click on the quick-launch, you won't get the "Lock Toolbars" option.
When you try to drag the quicklaunch, what happens? Can you move it at all? If you can, move it down. This should expand your taskbar making it double wide, and if you have your browser open, the browser tab should be next to the Start Menu, with the Quicklauch underneath. Move the browser tab over, and the quicklaunch should pop back next to the Start menu. Then you can drag your taskbar back down to single width again.
Hope this helps. Let us know.

Ok,I think we're getting closer. When I doubled the toolbar the quicklaunch icons did appear under the browser. But I can't drag the browser anywhere and then the quicklaunch moves back to just left of the system tray. Also there is still no lock toolbar option. All of this started when I downloaded the AOL toolbar. It placed itself right in the middle of the toolbar area and when I deleted it I could no longer drag the left side(next to the start).
