Hi, I'm hoping somene can help me with this. I had a problem with my browser (Mozilla and IE) closing on me. Like there would be something that popped up and said and error occurred and had to close. I ran a virus scan and everything was fine than when I tried to run AdAware it would start the scan, start detecting things and then the a blue screen would pop up all fuzzy and I would have to just shut my computer off. The same thing happened with Spybot. Any ideas on what the problem is or how to fix it?

Please follow the steps below to the best of your abilities given the problems you are having. Booting in safe mode (as required) may help to get you further.

    - Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

    - Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps below:

    - Download HijackThis 1.99.1

    - Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

    - Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file.

    - Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

    - Run HijackThis and save your log file.

    - Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next message. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post).

Well, I went through the list of things to do. I was unable to complete any of the online scans as my browser kept crashing at a certan point. I was able to run adaware with out it crashing when running in safe mode but it still does the same thing when I reboot normally. It only found a couple of non-serious problems and Spybot didn't find anything. Here is my Hijack This logfile:

Make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).
Reboot your PC into safe mode.

Please run HijackThis and click on the "Open the Misc Tools Section" button on the open page. Then select "Open process manager" on the left-hand side. Look for the following process (or processes) and one at a time kill them by selecting it and then click "Kill process". Then click yes.
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\CMMON32.EXE

After killing all the above processes, click "Back".

Then please click "Scan" and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: YBIOCtrl Class - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - SOFTWARE - (no file)
    O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {85d1f590-48f4-11d9-9669-0800200c9a66} - %windir%\bdoscandel.exe (file missing)
    O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Uninstall BitDefender Online Scanner v8 - {85d1f590-48f4-11d9-9669-0800200c9a66} - %windir%\bdoscandel.exe (file missing)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    Use Windows Explorer to delete:
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\CMMON32.EXE

    Now empty your Recycle Bin

Now reboot in normal mode and post a new HJT log. And tell us how things are working.

I followed all of the steps and AdAware still would crash. Also after deleting C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\CMMON32.EXE I am no longer able to connect to the internet.

Now that's strange. Here is the info on cmmon32.exe that I had:

    http://castlecops.com/s6626-cmmon32_exe.html

I dug a little deeper and found that there is also a valid version of this filename.

The below is quoted from: http://www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist_pages/tasklist_c.htm

Look on your Windows 98 CD for this file and get a copy back onto your PC. It is more than likely located in one of the Win98 CAB files.
