Good morning, I have irritating issue that I wan't to get resolved. Using Vista Home Premium with Office 2007 installed, all up to date (w/o SP1). When I'm attempt to e-mail a photo or click a email address MS Outlook opens as the default and I wish to use MS Mail (wife's choice and its her laptop).

In MS Mail Options it says it is the default mail handler and buttons are greyed out.

Under the OS Default Programs Outlook is check for 11 of 13 defaults and the check marks are greyed out. MS Mail also has all defaults checked and greyed out.

Thoughts on what to check next?

    Hi JK

Which security apps do you have installed as I just thinking if the likes of Norton or Spybot then they do seem at times to block major changes to defaults, so disable them and try again to set defaults?

Try this, click Start and paste this "c:\program files\windows mail\winmail.exe" /reg then check defaults.

Can you click the Main Set This Program as Default option on Set Default Programs just for WinMail or is that greyed out too? If you can click does it open up the Options list and if it does tick the mailto option.

Try going into safe mode and see if you can adjust from there?

    Thanks for the reply Halo...

Webroot Spy Sweeper with AV didn't see any shields that would prevent it there.

    No difference going throught Winmail.exe

In Main Program Defaults WinMail is all checked and greyed out there too, and mailto option is checked. Thing is Outlook is all check and greyed too except the mailto and WinMail icon. It like both programs are acting as the default and don't know the other one is there. Didn't see any thing on the MS sites concering this issue.

Can't seem to get into a Safe Mode Option on my Toshiba Laptop I just end up with a Boot Option (F2) CD, HDD etc or Setup (F12). Never had a failure/lockup on it before (knock, knock).
