All of a sudden, I cannot send anything to my SanDisk cruzer micro 512 MB flash drive. I get a message saying that the directory or file cannot be created. The drive is far from full, and I can read stuff that's already on the drive; I just can't add anything to it. Any ideas? Thank you.

I found the answer elsewhere. It was: copy the contents, then format the drive. Thanks to those who read the post.

hey guys:)) i'm smiling because of the group. i not smiling because of having 1 gig cruzer drive,AND have tried tried formatting drive under xp, and with also using swissarmyknife utility, also. same thing, orignally 976 meg free, and could only copy about 288 meg files. using mp3 only at this time, because i found a reasonable usb mp3 car player; fits into cigarette lighter socket. tried to build one for last 3.5 years.. oh well. back to drive. now shows 980 meg free, and was able to copy 340 meg this time... w t h ?

removed all promo software when it was formatted, but do not see any separate partition info, other than the one. whats next guys??????????????????????????????????:(

Format, FAT, FAT16, FAT32, NTFS, what file size, default? Did you use a command prompt or a right click in my computer?

ODDS ARE THIS WILL MAKE PROBLEMS GO AWAY FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVING THIS PROBLEM.. also, my usb car mp3 player accesses all mp3's in folders with NO problem....:))))

    You beat me to it.;)
Too many files in the Root Folder / directory has been a MS problem going back 20+ years.:D

As you mentioned, create Folders, cut and paste files into them, and the problem is solved. :cool

Also format any USB sticks into NTFS will help as well (smaller cluster size).
Beware, if NTFS, it can't be read by Win 9x /ME systems, though.

Check out http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=105071 for anyone interested in formatting their USB's to NTFS. (thanks Halo, again).
