Can't send email through my router.

sasI have a netgear router set up. I use Microsoft outlook as my email program. I can get email in but I can not send out email. Is there someway anyone can help me with this?

were you able at one time to send mail through outlook? if not you may need to set up your mail account with the proper SMTP server.

if you have been able to send before--

did you recently install a new antivirus program or firewall? normally a router will not block the SMTP (outgoing mail server) port 25 by default, but that is a possibility.

if you havent installed anything else, check the routers settings by entering the configuration page http://192.168.0.1 make sure you dont have any Email settings checked, as you want your computer to handle the Email, not the router.

 

I am able to get email and send without the router hooked up. When it is hooked up I can only get email. I have not installed any new antivirus and I have both XP and the router firewalls shut down.

I had a network friend of mine come over and he said that all the setings were right. I am at a lose. I may have to take it back.

I can reply to and send new emails when at home but not on the road at hotels, etc.

 

is it a secured network if not make it one and try again some mail clients will not let you send mail out under a non secured network.
