can't set up Tivo Desktop 2.6.2

I am getting an error saying there was a problem encountered while downloading. Any Ideas on why this isn't working? I have a sony vaio laptop w/ vista on it.

 

what are you using to download it (firefox, internet explorer, etc)?

thanks for all your help. I got the TiVo desktop downloaded to my pc but now I can't figure out how to burn my shows to a DVD. Does any one know of some freeware that could get this done?

 

Windows Media Player 11, which you should have with Vista, has a burner in it. I hear people recommending the Nero burner, and I have also used Roxio.

 

I am running XP and have a Nero burner ....but it doesn't show options to burn to DVD. It also might be out dated ... pc from 2005 and my hdd cut out about a year ago and I just got a new one. So pretty much everything is old and am in the process of trying to find all the updates I need.

 

I'm confused. If you are running XP why does your first message say you are running Vista?

Your Everest report in your other post says you have XP Media Edition, which suggests you have a version of Windows Media Player. Does it have a burn to DVD option? Can you update Windows Media Player on your machine?

 

LOL!!!...sorry. I was originaly trying to get the desktop on my wifes laptop wich is running Vista. However when I got my new hdd for my pc ( which is running xp ) and was able to get it up and running I decided to use it. So sorry for the confusion....guess it would have helped to mention that.

 

TiVo says I should use Roxio Creator 2009 to complete this process....However I was wondering if there is some freeware available to do this? I don't really want to spend a $100 bucks for this. Also if no freeware ...maybe a less expensive alternative.

 

I'm not familiar with burning from TiVo, so can you tell me if TiVo is just "suggesting" that you use Roxio Creator, or somehow requiring it? Let me poke around TiVo to see what I can suss out. Generally speaking, there is freeware available for this function, you shouldn't have to use Roxio, and you should check to see if your computer has, or could be updated to have, a version of Windows Media Player that will do this.

 

I believe they are just suggesting...I did find another program that claims to do it also called Convert XtoDVD it cost 50$... I am going to try the free sample and see if it works .... but do you know what freeware I would use though because I would like to try that also.

 

There are quite a few available for download through MajorGeeks. Here is a post that has links to some of the recommended ones. I hear a lot of people like Nero 6.6.

ok... went to the post and downloaded DivXtoDVD. I was able to convert the files ... then edited them in DVD shrink and burned w/probably and old version of Nero. When I played the DVD it was grainie off and on kind of like the frame rate slowed down or something. Any ideas what might be causing this....
