Ok, I have a Compaq Presario F500 with Vista, running Explorer. The router is a Linksys (CISCO) WRT54G2, currently using Comcast as the Internet provider.

I have 2 gaming consoles and a Mac connect without no problems, now my laptop is another story. The Laptop if I take it to a public place I can connect with out no problems, now in my house does not connect. I found a few problems though when i perform "ipconfig" I have message says Media Disconnected. I have also constantly have a Xfinity screen in Explorer asking for password but wont work either whenever I feel out what is asking for, I have try several thing but nothing has worked.

This is driving me insane...please help.:(

I would start with taking your home network out of the saved networks of the wireless connection and reconnect.

In XP it's in Network Connections - right click the wireless and go to properties - second tab is wireless connections. In there, click your home network and click remove. I know it's slightly different in Vista but I can't remember the exact steps offhand.

Close that, look for networks to connect to, choose yours and enter your wireless password.

Did your Vista ever connect on your home network?

The laptop that I"m on right now was fine everywhere but at home. I took it to work to troubleshoot but it was fine there too and I use the identical router at work. I combed through the settings and discovered the only difference. I use a different encryption type at work. I changed the encryption type at home and it connects without issue now.

Ok, I have done the steps From XP you told me on my Vista for reference it goes like this:

    1. Window button (start)
    2.Control Panel--->Network and Sharing Center--->Manage Wireless Network
3.Click on your Network--->Then the (-) Green Minus sign at the top menu
4.Then Click the (+) the plus green sign to ad the network again

Did not work though, and I have also deleted my antivirus just in case it was blocking something else...nothing.

    Any other ideas?

Did you try removing it from your saved wireless networks list, having your system re-find it and enter the password again?

Sounding like we are having a problem with your ISP connectionn, if you mind please check really quick make sure its secure it cant hurt.. Your concern for not being able to run an IPCONFIG successfully leads me too believe you will need too follow up wth ISP, I have thier website up now I have their # and will xfer, so they may assist you with that ISP concern, how does that sound?

@Trying101, user's other 3 devices are working just fine online. The ipconfig shows that the computer isn't connecting to the wireless router. Why are you thinking it has to do with the ISP? I am not following where you think the problem could be.

It was a question, not an insult. I was asking what direction you were thinking in out of curiosity. Some users here have fantastic insight and advanced understanding of networking.

This Xfinity that keeps asking for a password, the top two possibilites are Xfinity TV app for watching steaming video and Xfinity as a new name for Comcast.

Is Comcast your ISP? Did you use that computer to setup the connection and had to load their tools to set it up? Do you see Xfinity in you add/remove programs? If it is from either of the sources I listed, it is easy to download again if you find that you need it.

Uninstall it and see if that helps you. Especially if it's the app from Comcast and it wants a password, it could easily be the cause. It makes sense why it's only doing it at your house. Why the wireless shows disconnected (unless it's wireless router from comcast) isn't obvious to me right now, but the rest of it makes sense.

I didn't realize the TV app was also from comcast.

If you have the password that you used to setup the connection, try that.

I think you are seeing the login for the XFINITY Home Security Web Portal? Does it say anything like that ?
