Ran through the read n run me first and still coming up empty handed here... Can not update windows through Windows Update, I get Error "80070002", and Windows Defender is disabled and I cannot turn it back on. I currently do not have ANY antivirus installed, other than MBAM. I will be installing Avast once this is complete and clean. This computer will only go to this website and my gmail until it is clean. I have my own computers to surf with. This laptop belongs to a friend that is tech illiterate. I received it with tens of illicit programs installed, uninstalled most through add/remove programs, and am now here. Attached are the logs from the scans, I hope that someone is able to help me get this machine back in working order...

Thanks in advance for your help!!

I was unable to find the "Globalupdate Helper" program, via add/remove programs or looking through program files folder (both x86 and x64).

After running JRT, I started getting popups again (very naggy, they dont want this site to run, but dont bother my gmail at all.) I believe they were from "Couponcheapcheap" and another one I didnt think to grab the name of.

Havent tried installing Updates or turning Windows Defender, was awaiting a go ahead confirmation as to not change anything in the middle of cleaning process.

Attached logs as requested, RK V2 log is version from beginning of process, after removing requested items (instructions stated to press delete after checking only listed items in first tab, then again after second tab. Seems as though it removed items from all tabs that were checked , had to right click and select all on tasks tab and then check all items as requested.) RK V3 log pre MGTools.

Looks like MGTools.zip was modified with new logs, instead of creating new zip file. Let me know if you need any logs were incomplete.

See if Revo Uninstaller sees the Global Update Helper software to uninstall

    Delete these:
    • C:\Users\matthew\AppData\Local\Temp.dat
    • C:\ProgramData\mOWluRmrK
    • C:\Windows\SysWOW64\029B560A371F4E00AB32838EBC01B9E7

Reboot the machine and let me know how things are running.

Revo Uninstaller did not see Global Update Helper either. I dont see the process running, nor do I see an entry on the startup tab of msconfig for it.

Machine runs smoothly, MUCH more smoothly than when we started. I tried opening Windows update to see if I could download updates, my intention was to check if this issue was corrected but not download or install anything. I still receive error 8007002 when I try and check for updates and am unable to complete the check. Windows Defender is also still unable to be started.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

Run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. (Right click and run as admin if using Vista, Windows7 or Win8) Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

That finally got rid of global update helper. ;)

Ready for final steps? You'll have to post in the software forum about windows defender and windows updates. :)

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    4. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    6. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others) and running MGclean.bat did not remove them, you can delete these files now.
    7. If you are running Win 8, Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below to flush restore points:
      • Refer to the instructions for your WIndows version in this link: Disable And Enable System Restore
      • What we want you to do is to first disable System Restore to flush restore points some of which could be infected.
      • Then we want you to Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
