It's installed on desktop and renamed cf.exe. When I enter cf /u in Run I get the message: 'Windows cannot find 'cf'.

I double and triple checked the file location, its spelling, my spelling, the spacing ... no dice.

    Try this:
    • Click START then RUN and enter cmd and click OK to open a command prompt
    • Type cd Desktop at the command prompt and hit enter.
    • The prompt should change to show you are on at your Desktop folder now.
    • Now type cf /u and hit the enter key which should run ComboFix's uninstaller.
      • Note: The space between the cf and the /U, it must be there.
    Any luck?

    Yep,think it worked! Thank you!

At the end got the message: cf.exe is uninstalled, but after that came:

The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction.
    CS:05ab IP: 0103 OP:63 20 68 69 64.
Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

I hit 'Ignore', message reappeared, I hit 'Close', message reappeared, hit 'Close' again and it went away.

    Should I have any concern?

(I use Comodo FW and had to keep pacifying it during the uninstall, could it have been related to Comodo?)

    Many thanks!

Also, back when you were helping me in the winter I got side tracked by urgent issues at home. You'd asked why I had executables in the folder 'Program Files', said they didn't belong there. I couldn't follow up at the time. Wondering where do they belong? (I inherited this computer, many .exe's are in 'Program Files' and by default many installs want to put .exe's there.)

    Muchas gracias!

As long as your PC is running/booting okay, don't worry about it. This is not a malware issue anyway.

Installing the program there is fine. Downloading and saving the installation files or other files there is not fine. Save them in another folder. Like C:\Downloads or anything else you like. Just don't save them there or on the Desktop which is two common mistakes.
