Can't update Virus Definitions.. Manipulated Host file

    Hi, (I'm running Windows XP Pro)

    I'm having trouble updating my Norton virus definitions. LiveUpdate says the following:

    ...and then lists a load of websites, i.e. the symantec update sites etc.

    I then get...

    I have tried manually deleting the websites from the hosts file but it is replaced immediately after I close it. There is also a file in the same folder (C:windows/system32/drivers/etc/) called 'hosts.20050611-200737.backup' which also contains the list of websites.

    I have tried virus scans in safe mode having disabled system restore, but to no avail.

    I have just managed to get the updates to work by uncheckering the read only option in the host files properties. I guess this is problem solved!
