can't use system restore

Hi,
This is my first time using this support forum. I really appreciate it being here and I want to make sure that I am doing everything right.
We are using Windows XP. When we first noticed a problem with our computer, my husband was using ebay and a web address with yieldmanager being part of it kept popping up.
The next day, the volume control button no longer showed up in the taskbar and in control panel, we were unable to click any of the buttons.
The next day we noticed that we could log onto our email (hotmail and msn) but the next screen would be blank and white.
Today, I was trying to use the search function and the box pops up, half white and half blue and has the little dog in the left hand corner. I also couldn't open system restore. A white box labeled system restore pops up.
I may have missed several other things but it seems like more and more things are beginning to stop working.
I did open the computer in safe mode and ran Super Antispyware, Windows Defender, Spybot Search and Destroy and CCleaner and fixed all problems. I tried to clear out the system restore, but I couldn't open it. I also emptied the recycle bin and made sure the normal startup was selected. I also went in and tried to make sure that hidden files weren't hidden and then downloaded HiJackThis.
I don't know for sure, but I think I'm supposed to attach the log for someone to look at, but I'm also not sure how to do this. Is this the correct way to ask for help? I don't want to offend anyone because you have been so gracious to offer your help.
Please let me know if I need to do something differently or if there is a way for me to help my computer.

Please do post your Hijack This Log here where some of the techies can have a go at it if they are still doing it.
