Can't view secure sites

    Hi,

I've been having 'issues' with my Norton Internet Security software. It appears to have disabled itself and I can't uninstall as it keeps asking for the 'administrator', even though I am in administrator profile. I decided to install something else in the meantime, just to cover myself in the meantime.

I'm currently running AVG Free and Outpost Firewall, but I've also tried Zone Alarm and the Lavasoft Firewall since I had the problems with Norton. Since using Lavasoft, I've been unable to view any secure sites. I get the standard 'Cannot Find Server' page every time.

Windows Firewall is disabled, and I hadn't altered my security settings prior to these issues.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

    Thanks for the quick response.

Tried safe mode - no real progress there, same issues. I can't log off Norton as it's disappeared from the System Tray. It disappeared when I installed a new DVD Drive a couple of weeks ago. Tried the Symantec link, however I can't enable or disable and I can't uninstall unless I'm logged in.

Everything in Norton Internet Security is 'disabled' or 'off' except Script Blocking which is 'on' and E-mail Scanning which says 'error'. I can't get into 'User Accounts' at all. My subscription status was up in February, though I can't renew as I can't access the secure site, bit of Catch 22 there...

Are you aware that a virus or trojan could have disabled it? I would like to see you try some online scans, but make no mistake, this is a tough one! I assume you tried to uninstall Nortons from safe mode? I would also check user accounts and settings. I dont like using multiple users myself.

I'm just about to do a complete re-install to free up my PC for me and my music software alone, transferring everything else to a (yet to be purchased) laptop, so bad timing really. Not that there's a good time for this type of thing. I'm fed up with trying to do everything on one PC. Too many issues and conflicts.

In the meantime, good idea re. scanning for trojans / viruses. Any online scans you would recommend?
