Car audio people....

Got my new truck and well, the stereo works but its almost like the mids arent there. My old system was pioneer DEH 445 and one set of seperates with crossovers. Was a lot but sounded damn good in the litte truck i was driving. The system in this Tundra Double cab is stock and I would like to replace it with something that does mp3's, has bluetooth and sounds good. Maybe another pioneer deck.

I have been out of the loop so long for car audio I have no idea what to get.

any suggestions? Doesn't have to be top of the line, but has to sound good.

 

i put a Pioneer DEH4600 Receiver in my '04 Explorer to replace the factory system and i've been very pleased with it... doesn't utilize Blue Tooth but it was fairly inexpensive ($180 retail, got it for $110 with a friend's discount), and it plays mp3's as well as allowing me to customize the equalizer. I've been very happy with it to date... Having read reviews, I've found that other people are also very pleased with my particular model... You'll probably good to go with Pioneer...

other than that, i replaced my stock speakers with Pioneer 4-way 6" by 8" speakers and added a 10" Bazooka Powered Subwoofer to my trunk...

 

Bluesman..when you say "got the new truck" do you mean they repaired the damage or you actually got another new one?

Slightly off topic but curious. Best stereo I ever had was an Alpine. Awesome quality of sound!

 

There was nothing to repair on my new truck. Only the tow hitch plug and a cap were damaged. My neck on the other hand is taking a while to get back into shape. Its starting to get much better, I may be back to lifting weights by monday of next week.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention, would like it to be IPOD cabable as well.

 

i would find what you like on Crutchfield.com, and then search for reviews of the product on either Amazon or Circuitcity.com (if they carry it)... i would definetely try to find a distributor selling the particular product new on Ebay first, then go to Amazon or wherever to find it second...

 

I saw a Pioneer one the other day that has av inputs, so you can connect and ipod and other such devices. Also, it had mp3 playback but no bluetooth.
For mp3, ipod capability and bluetooth, you're going to be searching hard.

here's my receiver... doesn't look like they make it anymore as they came out with a new line of Pioneer receivers but i love the interface... and all my in dash lights are green so it nicely matches the rest of my interior =]

For $30 you can get an FM transmitter.

 

My car unit has plenty of features also, MP3s and whatnot, but once I got XM satellite radio hooked up, I haven't been playing any MP3s at all. Going on a year now.

 

I vary rarely listen to the radio. I am usually listening to guitar samples trying to memorize a guitar tone to beef up for clients, so the satelite radio thing I really dont care about. I don't have a bluetooth phone, but thats not far off. The Ipod thing is an extra but not a necessity. I just thought it would be nice to put clips from my pc on the ipod that way I can listen to them at full volume on the way to work.

 

it's pretty standard these days for a receiver to come with mp3 compatibility and XM or Sirius Ready, so you can pretty much count on any receiver you buy to have those two features... i think i'll eventually get XM later down the road... my older brother just got it and absolutely can't go without it...
