as most of you know i have a old 1986 Isuzu P'up with spacecab. well yesterday i pulled my fuel tank out because i been getting rust in the fuel filters and i found out i have some holes on the front of the tank. i wanted to know can i use FiberGlass on the tank? can i weld the tank? i want to seal the tank from the inside but none of the parts stores around here have any tank sealer. so what can i do to the inside to rid it of the rust? i am going to clean the tank with a washer to see if there is any more holes. i been told by advance that theres a seal that goes on this tank so does that mean its a 2 piece tank? if so can i FiberGlass the inside of the tank to cover the rust? or will that cause it to rust even more?confused the factory paint on the tank is coming off so should i also paint it to keep it from rusting from the outside? does it matter what kind of paint?

Most radiator shops can repair fuel tanks and seal them from the inside with a gel type product. Fiberglass is not a viable option in fuel systems. Depending on the severity of rust, replacement of the tank may be in order.
It's not a 2 piece tank but there is a seal (like a big O-ring) in the top of the tank that seals the sending unit.
You can paint the outside of the tank with most any kind of spray can enamel (Krylon).
Remember to always be safe when working with fuel systems/tanks, i.e., no smoking or open flames, sparks, etc.

I would get a replacement Poly tank I haven't checked their site but J.C. Whitney carries a large selection..............A side note most Marine Supply Houses carry a product that cleans and coats the inside of Marine Gas tanks. The Caveat is that you must be able to rotate the tank for the Epoxy coating to cover the entire tank, it will repair "Pin" holes only. I have used it years ago and it worked wonders, but can not remember its name, but a Good Marine Supply place should know what you are asking for. Hope That Helps N5638J
