I know that this is a technology forums but I'm just taking chances since there's a lot of adult here anyways. My car got broken into last night but also was broken into only a couple of months ago. I reported the previous incident and they fixed it. Is my car insurance premium going to go up if I report another incident of loss for my car? They stole my audio and screwed my passenger window up, and my deductible is only $250. Thanks for any help.

Car insurance rates usually get raised as a result of a certain number of at-fault accidents within a specified time frame-- say three wrecks in three years. That's not to say a repeat of what's happened to you wouldn't somehow place you in a higher risk pool, but since you apparently have comprehensive coverage, which is already relatively expensive, I would tend to think not.

I used to deal with UK motor claims litigation, and I'm sure it's going to be quite different in other countries, but I'll have a go . . .

The premium could go up if you report the latest one because the insurance company may assess the risk as being higher if it's happened twice in a short space of time. However, even if you decided not to claim for this one, it would still be a good idea to check if it's a requirement for you to notify them anyway. I don't know of it applies where you are, but some UK insurance policies do have this requirement.
If you did decide not to claim, but wanted to notify them, you could send them a letter with "For information only" written at the top, tell them the basic details and make it clear it is not a claim and you are dealing with the matter yourself. Do you have a no claims bonus there ? Sometimes an insurer may accept small damage claims, like windscreens, without reducing the no claims bonus, but it depends on the wording of the insurance policy / contract. Also, some policies have no claim bonus protection.

All I know is that I give the insurance company a lot of money every year, in return for a piece of paper that says I'm allowed to drive the car. Polite words can't describe them :cry

With a $250 deductible, you are probably paying a fairly high premium already. Step one: Report it to the police and get an incident/report number.
Step two: With the police incident/report number go to your broker and make your report. You make your claim in good faith, following all the rules of that you know of. Your rates will not go up. If they do, find out the reason. If the reason is "multiple claims" get all the names of all the people you've talked to, and then litigate in small claims court. In most jurisdictions court fees are paid by the loser. You will discover that there is no convincing argument that may be made by the Insurance Company, that vandalism or attempted theft of your vehicle is your fault, and that any such costs are reflected in the value of the insurance premium. For actual legal advice please consult an attorney, lawyer or solicitor/barrister. :)

Its been my experience that incidents where you are not at fault do not raise your premium...with that company.

However, if you switch insurance carriers, you will find you have some nice black pock marks on your record, causing them to insure you at a higher than normal premium.

    THats been my experience anyway.

Working at the Police Dept. I can tell you that your rates will not go up because it's not an accident, it is a incident that you can't control.

The first thing you should do or have done is immediately call the local Police or Sheriff's Dept. depends on where you're located when it occurred. The Officer will get the required information and complete a Incident/Offense report. Once this is complete you should be able to get a copy. You take the I/O form to your insurance company and they will take care of it.

You pay your premiums for things like this, things that are not your fault. They are not supposed to go up because like I said it's an incident beyond your control and if for some reason they do find out exactly why and go from there.

    Hope this helps. :)

Unfortunately, law enforcement doesn't curb corrupt insurance companies.

    I'm just saying, be careful.

    Universal car insurance

Why don't we have universal car insurance?

wow, what a dumb question! the answers are:
    -not everyone drives-<16
-not everyone drives the same kind of car--corrvettes/semis/porshes
-no one wants to foot the bill for strangers(more than we are forced to)

so if we don't think universal car insurance is a good thing. why are we so set in thinking universal healthcare if a good thing?
-not everyone takes care of themselves the same way(ie smokers/tanners/overeaters/gym buffs
    -
not everyone has the same kind of body...genes play a role in this, as does diet/enviroment, etc

-universal healhcare is a good idea why?

oh some factoids to make you aware of some things

-avoid cardiovascular disease, cancer and all-cause mortality by not weighing too much

Learn about Excitotoxins so you can avoid them
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Excitotoxicity

pick up/read a copy of Excitotoxins: The Taste That Kills
    http://www.amazon.com/Excitotoxins-The-Taste-That-Kills/dp/0929173252

or just read the summary of the book(for free)
    http://insuranceandwellness.com/Excitotoxins.pdf

to see where MSG is hidden in your foods
    http://www.truthinlabeling.org/hiddensources.html

while we all know commercial jingles/characters that advertise, exictoxins are taste enhancers
things added to food, like how you add salt/salsa/bbq sauce, that make food taste YUMMY
Meth and sugar/msg are more closely related than you realize; they affect the pleasure center the same way..... or do you think people with BMIs of 30+ who cant walk far, arent attractive, get laughed at for being so obese, are that way because they like to eat?

Food is a drug.....which is why people get fat on fries/candy and not veggies/fruit...then people want drugs/doctors to fix them and they dont want to pay for it, they think EVERYONE SHOULD pay for it...which is why they want universal healthcare, even though we dont have universal car insurance?(you can say, "not everyone drives" and I'll say, "not everyone smokes/does risky behavior/workouts, etc") so how do food manufacturers get you to buy more food? Excitoxins..make food taste so good, its ADDICTING, the way to counter this is to avoid excitoxins, as best you can.
