Does anybody know if its possible to reprogram the onboard car computer to fade the yellow blinker lights on and off and is this legal?

I would check with a mechanic at about that. I don't think that the onboard is quite smart enough to handle that, you may need to do some aftermarket. Personally, I like the LED lights as they are on and off, no fade like the incandescent. But that's just me :)

Most of the cars I work on the lights are not controlled by a computer. On newer vehicles there is a module that will power down any lights inadvertently left on, but that's about it. One thing you can count on is it will be illegal to tamper with the intensity of the lamps. There are strict regulations about colour, brightness and location of lamps in all state and provincial Motor Vehicle Acts.
