I was stopped at a red light on the bridge today when I looked in the rear view mirror, saw it coming, and BAM I got hit. No major injuries, got some damage to my truck, the worst is the suspension, dang thing bounces like a ball now on the smallest bump! The Hyunda (sp) that hit me is in bad shape... the hood is peeled back, bumper broken, left fender damaged, right headlight gone. Will have some picts when I find my photoshop disk.

They have insurance, I talked to my old boss and he will help me out with repairs, so it will all work out good. Be careful when you are driving and it you see a stopped car in front of you, ahh.... stop!:D

Why do you need help with repairs, if they have insurance?

Help with repairs is this: I was unemployed for a while, my former boss will help me fix my ride and I can pay him when I get the check from their insurance company. He needs a PSU for his new computer, I just happen to have one laying around.

I can't afford a rental, even if I get paid back for it. I need the hooptie on the road, and he will help me do that, and I can pay him later.

I can't get the accident report for 3 days. But I am lined up for several body shops to go ahead and give me an estimate to give to their insurance company next week. Sucks I cant' fix anything until their insurance company shows up. I could have the ball rolling Wednesday, but oh well.

I see. All insurance repairs I've ever had done, they didn't give me a check, they paid the repair shop directly.

Think it depends on the insurance co. who they give the money to. I have had it both ways. Shame you have to wait. Main thing is your ok, good - and congrats on you smoking rather lack of it.

Bad news, looks like the old hooptie is totaled. I put it on a lift had some folks check it out and it does not look good. both leaf springs are bent, the transmission may have issues, muffler is bent, I am pissed! I just dropped some time and cash into fixing the engine up, and now, I don't know. This thing is scary to drive, the back end is not right, I think I am going to have to get a rental.

Damn, last year I got the transmission rebuilt. Damn, I had a nice reliable ride until this arsehat slammed into me. Now I have a piece of crap that may toss me into a ditch if I hit a pothole wrong! I don't want to do it, but I am thinking about getting a lawyer.

It will be Friday before I get the info on the guys insurance, I wanted to get it at the wreck, but the dude with the gun and radio on his hip said it would be on the report... available in 3 days.

your insurance should take care of you ie: car rental, until the other peoples insurance comes across.

sorry to hear the bad news Fred i hope the insurance don't take too long to pay up I'm not sure how that works in the US but here they drag it out for ages even when it's plain to see that they are going to have to pay up.??

    great news about the cigarettes.

Re insurance payment/cheque: You should be able to request other party's insurance to provide you with a letter/email accepting responsibility and cover of repair (you have the estimates, so the ins. co. will select which of those amounts they will cover). You are entitled to make this type of request. Repairs should be able to go ahead with such documentation even though you haven't received the cheque from other party's insurer.

Re rental: other party's insurance may/may not cover this. Can be a bummer.

Re accident report: Given other party hit you in the back while you were parked at a red light makes him liable and if police called to scene, he should have been issued with a ticket for same. Other party would have been obliged to record manner of incident on his insurance claim and fault would have been evident - eg you parked at red light.

Re delays: You could request police to fax/email report directly to insurer to minimise delays. Unfortunately delays occur following accidents and it is a frustrating inconvenience.

You mentioned getting a lawyer earlier...not sure it would be worth it unless other party doesn't have insurance to cover your damages leaving you at a loss. Think carefully before such a step.

    Thankfully, you weren't injured.

I am assuming you mean smoking. Wow! today marks one month!:D It is going great now, the first few days are not fun, but not that big of a deal if you are serious.

And I feel so much better. I am glad I quit.

Just a quick update. I get my rental car paid for by Allstate on Wednesday! Let's just say everything is looking very favorable for Fred_G's bank account! And I mean very nice!

The adjuster from the offending party's insurance company will be by in the next week or so, until then, I get a rental they pay for.

    :D

Still waiting on the insurance adjuster. Allstate is slow. But I am cruising around in a car on their money. I talked to them, and the adjuster should be by one day soon...

Long time for them to pay for a rental.
