Card reader - HELP

Hi all,
I'm trying to add a 4 in 1 card reader to my PC. I have taken the reader from my old PC so I know it works. However, I thought it would be a simple case of attach the cables to the circuit board inside the new PC as they were in the old one. All went well and I got the usual message of 'installing new hardware' etc. Once it was done I inserted the card (a micro SD) and opened up my computer and double clicked on the removable disc icon. The blue circle appeared but thats as far as it goes. I have left it for half an hour but still nothing happens and I end up restarting the PC. Any ideas?
I am on Vista Home premium if that helps.
