I have an Intel P4 3.2 Ghz with HT tech, and 2 fans one in the back of the case and one on the side of the case, the temp of that MSI CoreCenter (MSI MB's Utility) shows 40-46 degrees, what is the ideal temp for my computer if anyone can help me here, also what about HDD Coolers ? Work good, bad other.

well, the "ideal" ambient temperature (air temp in the case) should be the same as room temp. but since that's impossible, it's a good idea to have it no more than 5C above that. but the most important temperateure to worry about is the core temperature. this should never exceed the 50's on total cpu load. so if you run folding at home or something similar, it should be in the 50's tops.

as for hdd coolers... well, imo, they're a waste of money; if you have a fan pointing at the hard drives, you'll be just fine. if you honestly cannot finda way to put a fan pointing to the hard drives, then a hard drive cooler would be ideal.

Actually those P4 3.2 & 3.0 mhz cpu's run hot the temps ya got are pretty much Normal, for stock heat sink/ basic case/basic cooling.

Just as your temps rose running that folding program, your temps will rise when playing games (if ya game) or even running virus scan or video editing and stuff like that.

Ya the temps on the high side, but if that's the max ya dont have to worry so much, Relax, get good after market cpu heat sink & fan, ya might want to improve the air flow of your case too, add couple of case fans maybe need to upgrade the ones ya got now.

a cpu cooler upgrade alone is just fine. if you are paranoid, i'd go for a thermalright cooler. if you like quiet, try out the zalmans; they're excellent coolers.

;) Well I went and bought the CPU cooler that I talked about a bit ago, what a rip off. It actully took my CPU up in temp, went from 39(with OEM Fan H/S to 54(New Fan H/S) Will just stay with the OEM

so 50-59 degrees celcius is ok for a P4 3.06? that's what my laptop runs at and is down to 49 with my EverCool NP-201 (works great) but yeah i agree - this chip runs HOT

i just want to make sure cause 50's seems the norm for my p4 . . . i swear the HT stands for "High Temp"

and i don't mean to hijack this thread - just thought i'd ask

    thanks
