    Hi:

I dissected my late father's HP Compaq S5200NX PC and ESD-bagged some parts to recycle & mailed them home to myself (no room in baggage to fly home with). I abandoned the case/PSU 1000 miles away, assuming I could find a generic case.

I want to throw together an extra home PC. The MB is an ASUS P4G533-LA. I'm told it's a Micro ATX size. The usual advice is MB's come with the backplate so if a MATX case supports this, you're good.

My problem is the reverse...what are my prospects of finding a case that is adaptable to this MB's connector layout, or finding a plate to work with a 'gaping hole' generic case? A friend said I could just use it with the back open, but it would probably not cool properly...not to mention collecting even more cat fur and dust bunnies than the average PC.

    Thank you

    Murray

    Hi

You should have no problems finding a micro ATX case as there are many available due to many users wanting to build small home cinema pcs and small formfactor pcs.

As for the backplate, that is a thing that comes with the motherboard and from OEM PCs like HP/Compaq with the original case.

You could try HP/Compaq support and see if they stock these or as the motherboad is an Asus built one try Asus support, cannot hurt to ask.

But also check out some cases as they may well come with a MS I/O backplate, if you have some PC stores close check out what cases they have as you will see in person if it comes with a I/O plate

MS I/O = Microsoft I/O, or something else?

I think the backplate was riveted on the HP/Compaq case, but don't remember..it was in May :

    Thank you

If you buy a new case then you might be able to find an I/O back-plate for your MB on E-Bay.
