CCleaner question?

When CCleaner does it's scan and finds and lists it before it gets rid ok.....the amount is shown in Kb or MB ok.....does this mean that the figure shown was being taken up by that amount of crap and so could'nt be used by the system? Does this make sense? I did a cleanup of my ex's system today and it has'nt been touched with security stuff for about 6 years......and CCleaner got rid of 65Mb of stuff which sounds like tons to me! Does this mean she'd now have 65Mb more available space on her sytsem now?

Yes, that's exactly what it means.

 

Yes when it says that its gotten rid of 65mb of junk that means that she will now have 65mb of more space. CCleaner just gets rid of temperary files left over from programs like Internet Explorer. Things like cookies and the cache are also deleted. but 65mb isn't that much, usually when i run it, it gets rid of like 100mb everytime.

Run Cleanup! http://www.stevengould.org/ first. Turn your sound way up, for a laugh. That will tell you how many files as well as how much space has been made available.

Then run CrapCleaner, then run

EmpTemp http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=1575

These 3 combined, really clean out the system. Then do a defrag to tidy up fragmented files on your hard drive. If the PC hasn't been cleaned up for years and you have now got rid of all the crap, then you really do need to defrag. Bazza
