Try checking the jumper setting one the drives and see if they are the same one should be master and the should be slave unless you have a raid system setup.:)

    Yes.

You'll need to set jumpers to establish the master/slave relationship on a given IDE channel. You may need to re-set the jumper on the master as well -- some drives have different jumper settings depending on whether it is a single drive, or whether there is a slave present on the channel.

Seems to me that the thread you started here also relates to this problem. That will leave you with some of the information you need in one place, and some in another. It also means that those who are trying to help you won't have the whole picture, and won't know what other information you've been given. Then you'll get conflicting responses, and you'll have to decide which information is accurate and which information should be disregarded.

It can also mean that somebody who posted incorrect information doesn't see a correction that gets posted to the other thread, so never gets a chance to learn from his error. That defeats the purpose of a discussion forum.

Double-posting usually isn't a good idea; if it's necessary, a reference to the other thread would probably be appropriate.

Which reminds me: in your other thread, I asked, "You've said 'and in the bios it only recognizes one at a time'. That implies that sometimes the DVD is recognised by the BIOS, and sometimes the CD-RW. What do you do to make the system change the drive it recognises?"

What's the answer to my question?
