CD Burner thinks its a Floppy

My internal CD burner has not functioned properly for a long time now. It does not show up in My Computer and the tray does not open and close (unless I use the manual eject). Even if I enter a CD, it does not recognize it. However, I recently noticed that in My Computer, it says that I have Floppy Drive. I built my computer and there is no floppy component. I have come to the assumtion that my Cd burner has been confused by the system as a floppy drive. Is there any software or BIOS modification that can fix this or am I finally going to need to by a new burner?

 

I was just looking through my device manager. Both a floppy and cd burner show up on it and it says both are working properly...weird

windows troubleshooter just tells me to get help elsewhere...it never comes up with a valid solution

 

does anyone have an idea?

 

do you also have a cd-rom.What are the jumpers on the cd-roms set at.One should be master the other slave.

 

Boot to Safe Mode and then from the Device Manager delete both the floppy and the CD. Reboot - it should hopefully redetect the CD.

 

deleted the floppy, the cd burner, and my dvd drive that works just fine and all of them reinstalled

Have you checked the BIOS settings re the floppy drive?
