cd burning software

I found a way to get into the site. I am really new to this, I do not really undestand the difference between a DVD ripper and burner. Can you direct me to somewhere on the site where I can study up on it. I do not know what to do. All I know is I cannot burn anything and what I have seems not to work.

A DVD ripper is a program that reads a DVD disc (usually a movie) and copies it to the PCs hard drive, usually removing the protections in the process. DVD rippers are used for personal archiving and back ups of your home movie collection.

A DVD burner is one of two things: it's either the actual drive into which you put discs to read/play or to write to blank discs; -OR- it's a program for writing information to blank discs. Burning programs can usually write video, data, music, pictures, whatever you want. However, very few will actually convert files from one format to another in the burning process (like if you had a video file in AVI format and you wanted to watch it on your home DVD player and TV, you'd have to convert the file first, then burn it).

Thank you can you recomment a good freeware program I can use to get my pictures off my computer so we can reformat it. The ones I have seen are too complicated. I need an easy one. My DVD burner is new and it is not working since I had to do the whole remove malware process. Everything is messed up , I cannot delete the burn program I had, Nero has disappeared .
