cd changes not being detected

I hope somebody out there can help me. i recently did a large download from uncle bill of lastest bug fixes for xp and ever since then my system has stopped detecting changes of cd's in either of my drives. one of the drives is a dvd rom/cd-rw drive the other is a dvd-rw drive does anyone have any ideas as to how to get them to detect changes again?

If you are talking about cd/dvd autoplay.And you have windows xp.Right click the drive from windows explorer>properties>autolay and decide what action to take.Also administrative tools>services>shell hardware detection auto

 

If it is AutoPlay, there is an AutoPlay Repair Wizard that is available from HERE.

checked both these settings autoplay is set on and the shell hardware detection auto is running automatically. still get the same problem put a disk in the drive and no autoplay kicks in look at the disk in explorer and the files show up ok but when i eject the disk (either manually or using eject from explorer and insert another disk explorer will not see the new disk only that it thinks the old disk is still in the drive. the only way to see the new disk is to close explorer and restart it.
