CD "corrupt"?

Vista Home Premium on HP Pavilion dv9500 laptop.
I'm trying to install an HP printer program from its CD. I installed it a month ago, installed it due to concerns, and want to reinstall it again. The CD not only doesn't autoplay, but when I try to look at it via 'Run, browse', or with explorer, I get an error "CD corrupt or unreadable". It loads just fine on my other laptop.

Any ideas re what's going on, and what to do about it, would be very welcome.

If you try a different CD, does the laptop see this?
I'm trying to figure out if it is a problem with the actual CD or a problem with your optical drive. (autoplay not working isn't a major problem; it keeps getting turned off to prevent malware from infecting a computer)

I'll try a different CD tomorrow. For now, the 'corrupt' CD works fine on other lap tops.

I did try a different CD this am.. same result, so it doesn't seem to be the disc.

my guess is that you're h/w is screwy...the cd you are trying to run is the right type...cd/dvd in a cd-rom or dvd-rom...I've done that before put a cd in a dvd-rom or a dvd in a cd-rom...lol...it happens
