I had to replace my CD R/W. Software is Nero smart start 6. Drive is Liteon model SOHR-5239VO6C. When I put in a disk the computer shuts down and trys to reboot continuously, until the disk is removed. Then I have to Reboot.
I took the computer to the builder, when I picked it up he said Mr. Softie had put in an upgrade that messed with the BIOS. He had put in an upgrade that got around the Softie thing. Burned a disk off some pictures on my computer.
I brought the unit home it was a few days before I used the drive, same thing as before. Any help will be appreciated.

Try removing the Nero software and see if that helps the situation. If not, go to the Device Manager, right click on the CDRW drive and choose uninstall and reboot. When Windows reloads, it will recognize the CDRW as a 'new' device and will re-install it. If that doesn't work, remove the CDRW from the PC and try it in a different PC (if possible) or try a different drive in its place. If using a different drive fixes the problem, then you'll know the CDRW is bad. If the problem remains with a different drive, then you'll know it's a deeper hardware problem (most likely). Try using a different data cable and/or hooking the drive to a different IDE channel. If there's another drive sharing the cable, switch the master and slave settings. Try the drive as a slave to the hard drive and see if that works..... keep us posted, and GOOD LUCK!

Try to locate a newer BIOS update for your motherboard (available at the motherboard maker's web site) and flash the BIOS as a last resort.

Maybe the problem is in your power supply? How many watts are there? Try changing it.

I had a problem like this and it turned out to be a power supply going south. Yes i replaced the power supply and everything worked fine...

To Hopperdave, thanks a bunch. I got to a friend's spare computer found out the old drive and cables were good, went back to my computer doctor and he found I had the jumper on the wrong setting. Don't ask how that happened I would have sworn I but it where it was in the beginning. Yes I am embarrassed. So much fer Old Geezers messin' with new fangled stuff.
    Thanks again for you help.
