    Hello all,

    I apoligize if someone has answered this before, but I am in some need of some help big time!

    I got an IPOD Nano for my birthday and the first time I used it. It loaded the songs on it with no problems. Then I went back to update it, and it wouldn't work. So, when I read the help section, it said to delete I-tunes and re-load the IPOD and I-tunes. Well, so when I went to put the disc for the IPOD back, nothing happened. The little gold light comes on, but no discs will play. I went to look under "My computer" and both the burner drive, and the cd/dvd Phillips drive icons is gone. However, they are there, and they worked fine before.

    I have a Compaq Presario 5000 series, (dec 2001) computer, that it happened to. I also have a Compaq Presario (1999) that the same thing happened to, with a dvd burner, and I was never able to get that back to work again.

    Could someone tell me how to fix this? I'm running XP Home edition on both of the computers. No software really came with them, they were all pre-loaded when I got them.

    Oh, and I'm totally a blondie when it comes to computers. (yes, I'm blonde) :) So, please reply in terms for dummies like me. :) Thanks!

    Do they show up in Device Manager? You can get there by right clicking My Computer and choosing Manage.

    Its an option on the left hand side. If they are there, but have an exclamation point next to them, right click one of them and choose properties. What is the error code number and description?

    Yes, this is what it says:

    Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)

    Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.

    The other computer, talks about how the Burner is Array, and it gave a (Code 10)

    I tried uninstalling them, and then turning the computer off, and then on again, and it said that it found the hardware. However, it still has the ! next to them, and they are not in "my computer" icons. Also, they still don't run anything. So, re-installing XP, or using my recovery c.d. is out of the question. Unless I can make a copy somehow on a floppy disc? Maybe use my other computer to do that? Since that one, still works for the main dvd/cd rom drive?

    Thanks for any help and advice you give. I appreciate it! :)

    Can you be more specific? What happens when you try to?

    What specifically are you deleting?

    I did these specific steps. And then it made a "boom" sound, and a little box came up, saying that I can't delete those items.

    1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
    2. Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the registry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    3. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
    4. Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    5. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
    6. Quit Registry Editor.NOTE: After you remove the Upperfilters value and the Lowerfilters value, if you notice lost functionality in a particular program, such as CD recording software, you may need to reinstall that software. If the problem recurs, consult with the software vendor for assistance.

    Did you try to delete the item on the left side, or the right side?

    Also...do you have an admin account?

    I tried deleting it from the right side. Does it make a difference? Admin account? as in administrator of the computer? If so, yes, and I am in that section when I am trying to do the action.

    It gives me a "error deleting key" message when I try to delete those.

    Sounds like a permission problem, try doing it in safe mode(hit F8 before the windows xp splash screen and log in as an administrator)

    I would make a back up of that key before you mess with it in case something goes wrong. Right click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} and tick "export" then save the file to a convienient place.

    I was logged in as the admin already. I did the export as well, and tried to delete again, and it didn't work. But it let me delete a different one.

    But anyway, good news! Someone told me to try "system restore" and I changed back the date, and voila! They came back, and everything is working great. I also re-installed the I-tunes and it seems to be properly working now. I appreciate everyone's help. :)

    I'm going to see if I can do something about the other computer's burner. The one that doesn't seem to work at all. Maybe a system restore would help for that one too? I dunno.
