    Hello, I have a tsstcorp cd/dvdw ts-h552D cd/dvd burner.

I was tinkering around with some mounting software, I tried burning a dvd a couple days ago and it failed (often does after encoding fphase witrh dvds but it burns cds fine all the time. Well after this particular dvd burn fail, i noticed that my drive wont work. I put it in the machine and the light turns on for a few but nothing happens.

    I've tried:

-removing malware via tons of reputable, updated software
-googling the problem with others and same model burner
-booting a windows start up disc (wont run)
-cd/dvd will not move inside the burner
-i've removed the hardware via device manager and the drivers, checked that poi setting or whatever it is, its not enabled.

I dont want to reinstall windows cuz i have some very large programs.

I notice this happened shortly after mounting software to some created drive (F:) and then unmounted, ive done this with a few softwatre and its worked after but this time it didnt.

I also deleted all software for burning except thje one that cam,e with my os which is cyberlink power dvd.

So my burner isnt working and i have no access to a lens cleaning cd/dvd.

Any suggestions? Would a hijackthis log show anything?>

i hope it didnt just pooch out on me. some were saying if it dies often the cd or dvd burner will go first , then the other. is this true>?

    thanks for any help

Sorry to say, but i think its a gonner, can you try it in a mates PC, or can you take it to a local PC repair shop and ask them to try it out, should cost $10 at most.

Well A drive can fail in a miriad of different ways. It can fail to open, it can fail to spin up, it can fail to read, and it can fail to write.

Each failure is a different problem. If you had any hope of resurecting this drive I have two options for you. First I would get my hands on a disk cleaning cd. $10 at Staples. Pop it in and see if it helps. Second pull it out of the computer, eject the tray, take the top cover off the drive and clean the lens of the laser with rubbing alcohol and a qtip. Put the whole rig back together try it. If it works, great, if it doesn't throw it in the trash, buy another one from an online company for like $30.

Those disks work awesome for all kinds of drives, I've saved PS2's with them, DvD players, along with -rw drives.
