I use Windows 10 and a Pioneer 20X DVD±R DVD Burner Black SATA Model DVR-216DBK.

When I first installed Windows 10, my computer recognized my CD/DVD drive. I used it to install MS Office and other programs. I then had to do a Repair of Windows. When I put my Windows disk in the CD/DVD player, Windows said for about 1/2 hour, "Windows is preparing to Repair." I shut down, went into BIOS and changed my CD/DVD player to the first in boot order, popped in my Windows disk and it got me to my desktop, perhaps Repairing Windows that way.

I then went back into BIOS, changed first in boot order back to Hard Disk, and Windows booted up to my desktop. So I know that my CD/DVD drive is in good working order because I just used to get the Windows Repair done.

The problem is, my CD/DVD drive is no longer available in either My Computer or Device Manager. I followed all the directions at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...s-not-recognized-by-windows-or-other-programs to get it recognized again but none of them worked. It's still not recognized.

Is there anything else I can do to get my CD/DVD drive recognized by My Computer/Device Manager?

my only thought here would be to go back into the BIOS and change the boot order back to where the cd/dvd is first in the boot order, and it is ok to leave it this way. if there is a non-bootable cd in the drive when the computer starts, BIOS just skips it and goes down the boot order until it finds something to boot from. then stick any kind of cd/dvd in the drive and restart the computer, with the idea that it then gives windows something to find. it's not elegant, just something to try. good luck with it.

I have had the CD/DVD drive as the first boot device in the BIOS for more than 10 years.
As long as there's no disc in the drive when you turn on or restart the PC, you're good.

Thanks for responding, I appreciate the information.

I started having another problem (adapter card) so I took my computer to a pc repair shop in town. They replaced the cable to the CD/DVD drive and it's again recognized. It was just an odd coincidence that the cable went bad right after I did the Windows 10 repair. They couldn't solve the adapter card proble4m. I'll be starting a new thread or that.
