CD-R/RW won't format

I have a Dell 2400 and it is 3 years old. Initially my CD Rom was "Roxio", then for some reason I got an update notice, and it is now "Sonic" and my DLA is Samsung CD-R/RW SW-252S. For some reason I can no longer format new disks. I haven't tried to format any for quite some time, so this could be a driver problem, however, when I click 'update' in properties for the Samsung, it can't connect. When checking, it says that my Samsung is working properly, however, when I try to format, I keep getting the message "insert media." I'm at a loss where to even begin to look to solve this problem. BTW, I can read older CDs that I've had for some time.

With a disc in the CD drive, in My Computer can you right-click the CD drive and find format in the list of options? Or are you trying to format within the Sonic program?

Just installed a Sonic update on my Dad's same model computer. The update turns DLA off by default. In My Computer right click on the CD drive select properties. Under the DLA tab click the box "enable DLA for this drive". This turns on Format options for his Samsung drive. Hope this helps.

Something may have gone wrong during the update process. I would suggest Record Now and DLA as these seem to control format options on his machine from my limited experience. I would get Solutions Digital Media last as that is not even on his machine and he can format fine.
