I reloaded windows XP on myDesktop. When windows first initiated everything worked fine except that the video driver was not correct and I had very poor resolution on mu monitor. I had a disc with drivers for my motherboard an ASUS P4BGL-MX but because the resolution was so bad I am not sure If I installed the drivers in the correct order. At any rate after I installed the windows service Pack 3 from a CD I had burnt it on I noticed that the dvd and CD Rom wont read any more. I deleted them from D.M. then rebooted. They showed up in D.M. again but still will not read. Any ideas?:confused

    Hi

Give the upper lower filters fix a try HERE

On the drivers did you install the Chipset driver first and reboot, then install the others?

I would goto ASUS support and get the lastest drivers for your motherboard HERE, just enter P4BGL-MX into the top left search box where it says *input model to search*, then two boards show pick the P4BGL-MX and then your OS version and the drivers will show, the Chipset is listed in the Utilities section. (would link direct but ASUS doesnt seem to allow you to do that these days, links dont show)

Then if still not working post back with any error messages given when trying to use the CDROm and then any yellow ! marks listed in Device Manager.

I did not mention that earlier today, when the CD and dvd roms were working [Earlier today I ran a Live One Care Safety Scanner from MS and it identified some registry entries which were unneeded and suggested I delete them(144 entries). which I did. I'm thinking that has something to do with the problem. ]

Check high/low filters and none were listed. ran the fix you mentioned and it may have resolved the problem. However there is still an issue trying to run the program for my HP Psc 2210 All in one printer. It will not load from the CD I have. It gives message 1:2803 2: Setup Error 3:4:5:6
Also when I drag an open window it leaves sort of trails as it is moved across the screen. In D.M. there are no yellow marks of any kind. Also the CD-RW/DVD and DVD/RW both plat music and read files now.

I am not terribly comfortable flashing the bios. I am not sure what to name the file as it suggests. I think the driver I had listed is 1017-003. But I would try it with a little further explanation of how to do it. I have reloaded windows several times on this unit over the years and never ran into this problem. Is there any other info which would be useful?

    Hi

No need to flash the BIOS, only needed for specific issues and yours doesnt seem like one of those times/cases.

For the trail in dragging a window across the screen you will need to install the Graphic or VGA driver, so are you using the onboard graphics that the motherboard came with or a add-on card, if the add on card what make and model is it? if the onboard then at the same list of drivers click the VGA list and download and install the Intel(R) Extreme Graphics Driver for Windows 2000/XP Driver V6.13.01.3485 WHQL driver.

As for the PSC2210 Printer AIO then just download the latest driver and software from HP and install, download is HERE
