I have a dell inspiron 6000, My drive is missing in my computer, device manager as well as when i went into the bios it said that no line mapping found. I deleted the registery's correctly and tried installing it manually, however when i got the driver it said that nd-6500a not found correctly. I also took apart the laptop and made sure that the connection was there. when I insert the cd i can tell that the connection is there because the mouse pointer shows that the computer is doing something. I have tried everything. I even restored my computer to factory settings and it still isn't there.
Thank you in advance for any help

Picking up on what youve posted, it looks like your problem is hardware related, not quite sure what you are getting at when entering the bios
when you are in the bios is your dvd drive listed in standard cmos features?

do you have a bootable cd....ie an XP disc?
if you do set your machine to boot from the cd drive and see what happens

is the machine still under warranty?

if youve explored all options could just be a drive failure? if you as it seems are comfortable removing the drive, might be worth spending a tenner or so and getting a new drive off e-bay

You could download any number of small programs in ISO format, burn 'em to a CD and try to boot to it just to see if it will boot. Nothin' to lose; well, maybe a 10 cent blank CD (unless you choose a program you'll use often). Here's a link to a small program that includes an ISO image to create a bootable CD with: http://www.majorgeeks.com/Dariks_Boot_and_Nuke_d4596.html Use Nero's "Burn an Image" tool, or use the ISO tool in whatever burning software you're using. You can NOT just burn the ISO as a data CD, it won't work that way.... anyway, good luck.
