cd-rom gone

    i lost my software for my cd-rom when my computer went nuts. i'm havin a hard time finding it. It is an ATAPI Device. if any one could help me please let me know

    Do you mean the drivers?
    What OS are you using?

    How did you fix the computer? Did you reformat? If reformatted the OS should have picked up the drive. Do you see the drive in Device Manager. Did you have the box open that a connector could have come loose?

    my os is win 98se. when i pull up my computer the D driver is not there.
    i took it to a friend and she said that she started it up and had no problems with it. the side is not been open and i have checked all connections.

    She took the whole computer to her house and tried the cdrom?
    If you did not open the case how did you check the connections?

    Sorry for the lameness of the questions but just trying to figure out your situation.
    Go to device manager and see if the cdrom shows up there.
    If you see the drive delete it and then reboot the computer.
    Hopefully Windows will recognize it and reinstall the drivers.
