cd-rom problem

    My computer is no longer recognizing cds. When I put a cd in it sounds like auto-run is starting then stalls. If I hit play on cd/dvd controls it scans the drive and then says "Data or no disc loaded" and "Please insert an audio compact disc". When this started it seemed to recognize some cds and not others. Now it will not recognize any. Pressing Start and Run also doesn't work. Audio and other cds don't run. Please help!

    Can you get a CD drive from someone to replace it with as a test. It sounds like a drive that is on the way out.
