CD ROM will not work, disappeared on computer

I am not sure what information is needed from my system. I retreived this from everest. It shows that a CD is not found even when I go to my system-device manager there is no CD drive found. Sometimes it will show up and then it has a bunch of funky yyyyyyy??????'s after a type of cd-r/rw. This just started happening. Can anyone tell me what I can do to get rid of this? and have my cd player back? I've tried to remove the cd and let the device manager find it but no luck. It also won't let me run any system restore. HELP. I am not very computer literate as far as this is concerned. Do I have a virus? I've run adaware and it doesn't find anything. But it won't let me run mcafee.

CPU Type Intel Pentium IIIE, 733 MHz (5.5 x 133)

 

If you can tell me everything that has occured since the problem came about software changes added hardware anything websites visited sounds virus related or spyware related.

 

I think it is virus related also. I have gone to registry fix and it says I need to subscribe before it will fix everything. I have tried to do a virus scan at trend but it freezes up when I try to download the info so I can scan. Other than that I have tried to delete the CD ROM and let windows find it upon reboot. It does sometimes and other times it won't. I have a screen come up sometimes when I reboot that says unknown device found. But if I say okay find the software associated with this hardware it can't. And if I just close it then nothing happens. I can't even get the computer to do a system restore. Also sometimes when I reboot it says disk 1 28629MB then Disk 3 with my config files then windows me satrts up. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

 

Win ME is crazy dont why ms sent it out got rid of it myself had the same problems freaky stuff started happening good luck fix one thing something else comes up.
