CD-ROM won't read ANYTHING

My CD-ROM driver is unable to read anything put into it... DVD's, PC games, etc. I'll load a CD and it spins for 3 seconds, then nothing. I checked the Device Manager and it's telling me that the "device is working properly". I'm guessing its simply gone kaput. I tried the "search for updated drivers" and now in my Device Manager under CD-ROM it doesn't display my original driver model anymore (just says CD-Rom Drive in its place). Any advice as to how to remedy this problem would be appreciated.

160 MB Ram

Clean the CD lens

 

I tried to use a Lens-cleaning CD, but again, the CD-ROM accepts NOTHING... thought about trying to clean it manually, but figured I'd probably do more harm than good... thanks for the suggestion nontheless.

 

Open the CD cover
press CD eject
do you CD lens active in red Lazer...

 

What are you talking about? I don't want to sound rude but, while you've made some attempts at giving advice, and as much as your intentions are good, your advice is frequently very poor. Please do not post anymore solutions unless you have a definitive answer or I will be forced to put you into the MajorGeeks READONLY usergroup. Your advice just irritates most users and gets them nowhere.

if the drive accepts nothing, spins for a few seconds and will not read any cd-roms, then your drive is probably toast. Try a new CD-ROM drive as it is pretty much the only viable testing method at this point.

 

It is my way to make sure CD drive is dead or CD lens is weak. if its lend is weak I can show how to adjust CD lend, that 's all. I do not think that i am joking in this.
