cd rom won't read blank cd

My cd rom won't recognize a blank cd in either drive D or E. I have Windows XP Standard for students and teachers. It will read a cd with files on it, and spins a blank cd, but fails to detect the presence of blank cds.

 

It's not supposed to, there is nothing on the CD, so it spins looking for files but can't do anything if they don't exist.


If that annoys you, then turn AutoPlay off, but I find it a handy feature.

Or, hold down the Shift key as the CD tray is closing and that will temporarily stop Autoplay.
