I bought a 50 pack of Sony CD-R's last week and I'm downloading stuff off ThePirateBay and burning it onto cd's and deleting it off my computer. Then once I'm down to 20 cd's a couple I put in on my other computer don't work. I inspect them and see problems with the cd's, manufacturing problems. I find little bits of black particles that were melted in the composite layer on the finished side that show through to the reflective side (if anyone wants me to take pictures I will). I found 10 of them in the 50 pack and then another bunch of them elsewhere. So what does everyone think of this and of data loss even on another brand of CD-R's that are fine, is there date loss in the burning process as well?

You really should not be advertising the fact that you're illegally downloading things from a site that specializes in hosting 'stolen' software, music, movies, etc, and posting here at Major Geeks (a reputable site of stand-up individuals) asking for help in backing up the aforementioned illegal downloads isn't really bright either. However, if the CDs were manufactured poorly, you should return them to the place of purchase. Generally speaking, burning to CD/DVD is one of the safest ways of backing up data long term. If you're running into lost data on burnt discs when using normal non-defective blanks, it is likely due to a bad burn caused by a faulty CD/DVD drive, or corrupt burning software.

No, these are Sony CD-R's with manufacturing problems on them from the plant. I found tons of them, inspect the ones you got yourself and like me you will probably find particles that got melted into the composite layer of he cd during the melting and molding process.
