I am having major issues with burning a CD since i've upgraded to SP2. Here is the sequence of events:

    1. Formatted drive, reinstalled Windows XP and upgraded to SP2 (from SP1).

    2. Installed all necessary drivers (video, audio, network adapter, etc)

    3. Installed Nero

    4. Attempted to burn a cd with Nero and cd gets up to 5% and I hear the DVD-RW kick into "high gear" and then slow back down again, and shortly after the cd ejects saying error on the screen.

I have tried burning with Windows Media Player, XP & Nero. I've also swapped the DVD-RW with a Sony CD-RW 52X that I have and that didn't work either. I was led to believe that it was my ASPI drivers, so I updated them and that didnt work either.

I have spent alot of time on this and am pulling my hair out (and broken alot of CDs too). I need help!

What info are you trying to burn onto the CD? are you trying to make an audio complication disc? or simply backing up data? And what model is the CD-ROM? I have had similar experiences where I will try to burn some audio tracks onto a CD, and does the same as you explained. The CD-Rom LED light goes red, the CD will not stop spinning, and is impossible to eject without using a pin to eject it with. (but better to restart your comp) I found that the data I was trying to burn would simply not burn onto the CD even though the data was fine. But I could burn anything else with no problems. My thought on this was it could only be the data I was trying to burn onto the CD. Can you burn anything else without problems?

I am simply trying to burn an audio cd. I have a good feeling this is something to do with SP2. I have burned numerous audio cds and never had a problem like this. I've since uninstalled Nero and just tried with Windows Media Player but still no luck. I'm getting very frustrated over here!

If the problem started ever since you installed SP2, then I think its more trouble then its worth. I am still useing SP1 becuase, as I tryed to install SP2 my PC would no longer load windows. And thus got very frustrated with SP2 myself. If you think its SP2 causing problems then the only easy option is to roll back to SP1. Can you confirm what model the CD-ROM is? The CD-ROM I used to have problems with came from "liteonit"

    Is this Nero 6 ultra?
Do you have the latest updates from Nero, I think there is update to be compatiable with SP2.
All previous versions I believe are not compatible.
