    Hi Everone,
Can anyone please help me with the following (I hope I have posted this in the correct place), I am having problems formating new cd-rw discs, when I try this I get the following message (FORMAT FAILED DUE TO MEDIA DAMAGE).
I have windows xp and my computer had software sonic dla 4.5 ( it came with the computer), I thought this was the problem and found an update sonic dla 4.95, I swaped this over but still get the same message, format failed due to media damage. Trouble is I had previously been able to format new cd-rw's with the sonic dla 4.5 software, and still have the same box of discs that I had previously formatted from ok, any ideas. Not being very good with computers I would really appreciate assistance. Thanks and happy new year. Coco.

    Hey,

Ok, let me get this straight. You bought a set of brand new CD-RW's that fail to format. You also mentioned that you still have your old set of CD-RW's that used to format with no problems.

Do your old set of CD-RW's still format since the upgrade to Sonic DLA 4.95 or do they fail also. If your old CD-RW's format fine but your new ones don't, then it's probably just the new CD-RW's that are giving you problems. Some cheaper (in quality) CD-RW's don't have the versatility to work will all CD-RW drives and even some high quality CD-RW's will sometimes have incompatibility issues with some CD-RW Drives. You may have bought a set of CD-RW's that simply won't work with your CD-RW Drive.

Now, if what you're saying is that your old set and new set of CD-RW's won't format, try re-installing the Sonic software. You mentioned it came with the computer but you may have an application disk that came with the computer allowing you to reinstall Sonic software. If reinstalling is not an option, try installing another CD Burning application (such as CDBurnerXP) to see if the problem persists among other CD Burning applications or just isolated to Sonic DLA.

    :)

Hi, There is only one box of disc's, but suddenly I can't format them. I did upgrade sonic 4.5 to sonic 4.95 after I found my formatting problem, still no joy. Can't find an application disk but surely when I upgraded that would have ironed out the problem, but no!. So I will try your suggestion and try installing another CD Burning application is CDBurnerXP the best or can you suggest another.

Hmmm, lets see if we can isolate the problem...

    1. Is it possible to try to format your discs on another computer to verify whether or not the discs are actually corrupt/damaged?

    2. Is it possible to try to format a disc besides the ones you've been using, a friends disc or even a brand new purchased disc?

Hello, Sorry been away, tried your suggestion gave disc's to a friend she could format them, but when they came back my machine can't read them. I have also contacted Roxio they have supplied me with two so called fixes which have been useless, continuing to bang my head off my computer this doesn't help the situation but makes me feel better, anyone any ideas........please!. :cry
