cd writer prob still

    Hi .Having a prob with my cd writer.Its set to autoplay but doesn't.The action box doesn't appear but I can open cd manually>What could be wrong please.Am running xp home and originally took the auto insert off when I had Win 98.I am sure it worked with Xp once upon a time
    Have changed registry value as instructed to 95 (thanx)and still no results
