I am trying to help a friend that is visually impaired and has been using the "CD Writing Wizard" to burn cds and would like to continue to do so. However, his computer has just been wiped, reformated, and the programs reinstalled. Now, when he tries to burn a cd, the wizard starts up, but quickly puts him into the "Windows Media Program" which is extremely slow and hard for him to use. I know that there must be a check mark I need to tick or un-tick somewhere, but I can't find it and I can find nothing on the internet. Can anyone help? Thanks, Ruth

If trying to burn music or .mp3 files with the XP built-in CD writing software, Windows Media Player will open unless the user choses to burn the files as data. The default is NOT for data so if the user clicks Next Next Next without really paying attention, they would end up in Windows Media Player.... If trying to burn just regular data files, Windows Media Player should not be opening. You can also open My Computer and right click the CD burner, click Properties. I attached a screen shot below so you know what to expect; click the Recording tab (red box in screen shot) and make sure the box is checked for Enabling Recording on the drive (purple box in screen shot).

Maybe he burned the music cd as a data file. I will ask him. I saw him use the CD Writing Wizard to do it about a month ago and it worked fine for him. I knew it would be something simple like that.

The Enabling Recording box is already checked. I had already explored all of that.

    Thanks dlb for your time!
