    Hi everyone.

Heard that a cheap way to improve vista is to use a ReadyBoost drive
ie: usb pen drive or sd card.
BUT can you use Compact Flash such as the "4gb Sandisk Extreme IV"
as it has a 40mb/s sequential read write speed.

I have 4gb of OCZ PC6400 800mhz ram installed but as I understand it
you can still improve your HDD access buy using ReadyBoost as a cache.

    Am I correct?

Any help on this issue woud be appreciated as its a little confusing.
    Cheers.:)

Certainly the 2Gig version of that thumb drive is Readyboost compliant, so I would think the 4Gig is too.

More info on Readyboost you might find helpful http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=145267

Note post #9 by Adrynalyne who notes that it may not always increase performance. I know he personally tested Readyboost himself.

    Cheers LEV.

Read the post, (tried to search vista readyboost but no luck before LOL)

Yes sounds like a good idea then,
But as in my original question is the 40mb/s trasnfere speed on the CompactFlash better for the purpose or is it as suggested JUST usb pen drives?

    Thanks for the info man.
    Respect..:cool

i've never seen readyboost on any other memory type (ie - cf, sd, etc). i've only seen it on usb thumbdrives. when you plug it into your vista comp, it will recognize it as readyboost, and will ask if you want to use some of the memory for that purpose (something like that, i sold my vista comp). - sos

Nice list I use for suggesting what removable media is ReadyBoost Compatible http://www.grantgibson.co.uk/misc/readyboost/

Do also look on the packaging of the USB or Flash Media that it is Readyboost compatible as some are not, I have various ones that are and some not.

I will note though, it is very, very unlikely that you will see any performance increase with readyboost, when you have that much ram. Exceptions would be like me, with my pidddly 4200rpm hard drive.

Heck with 2gb, I only see a slight boost with my Lexar Lightning II drive. Even then, its only with Office apps that its even noticeable.
