i have an emachine. if i changed the power suplly to a really good one would that be worth it. i have a 300 watt. i also heard that the x850 sucks power up. is there any other steps with changing a power suplly like drivers or is it just unscrew and and put a new one in?

What are the specs of your E-machine, if you are adding that card you will def need a new power supply. I had an emachine and you should be able to change the Psu to any standard atx power supply 2.0 version. i would reccomend an Antec, They are good quality power supplies. All you need to do is remove the old one and put in the new one.

im shopping at newegg. and im not sure if a certain power suplly will be compatible with my computer. u said standard so does that mean i can only get standards? and im not sure if it will fit right in my case. my emachine is a

    athlon 64 3200+ 2.00
    a 300 w power supply
    an x850 xt
2 512 sticks of corsair ram
my emachine is a computer u would find at walmart but i upgraded it a lot.

When I sat standard i mean ATX if you look at the power supply on neweeg it will say if it is atx compliant or not. I would reccomend getting the Atx 2.0 power suppliy because it offers two 12v rails which give more stability too your system. You would have one rail for your video card and the other for the rest of your system. ATI"s website recomends a 350 watt or higher for the x850. These are a few i found at newegg that would work.

You can check the power supply in your computer, pull it out and check on the sides somewhere it should say atx

I would probably go with the 450 watt just to be on the safe side

Also check the power supply to see if it is a 20 pin connection or a 24 pin connection

That one Should work, Your system will only draw the power that it needs so if that is more than you need it the extra power will just not be used. Heck that would run a dual core cpu setup it has 19a on two rails.
