I have an intel celeron D processor and looking to change it to a Dual Core 2 LGA 775 processor. Can I just replace it and do a new hardware detection and it will work or do I have to reinstall windows so it detects the processor???

    Thanks

Did you do any research on your MB to see if that CPU will work?:confused

IF You have a LGA775 socket mobo then, depending on your budget i would recommend

    1. Intel Core 2 Quad Q9950 Price £160-200

This will give a noticeable improvement from your existing cpu!

    2. I would recommend a good dual core Intel CPU like the e8400 which can be bought for around £120-130

    3. You could go for a E5400 which is still an upgrade from your existing CPU but wont be that noticable.

I'm not too sure if you would have to reinstall new os or not.

    Hi

I would agree with Burrell on CPU, but would like to know what hardware you have now and the following will help us estimate this better.

Personally would re-install OS from scratch.
