    Hi! New to the forum, so please be kind. I am maintaining about 300 Windows XP PCs that are way back on IE 6 (they will be upgraded to Windows 7 PCs with IE 8 later this year, but in the meantime...). I need to know if there is a way to change Temporary Internet Settings in IE 6 via the command line (as that's my only way to access these outdated offsite systems). Under "Check for newer version of stored pages", they are currently set to "Never" and I need to change that to "Automatically" via the command line for some of our locations. Is there a way to do this?

    Thank you.

    Greetings, BigRedEO, and welcome to MajorGeeks...

    Wow - 300 XP machines to update! Looks like you've got your job security set for quite a while...;)

    Don't know if you've seen this Petri.co page - it's got a lot of useful command line and batch examples. I know that the page is titled "IE7" but I imagine the scripts would apply equally to IE6...

    Just realized that the scripts I pointed to will clean the various caches and histories but are not for actually changing the settings - sorry. I'll keep searching...

    And - are these XP Pro machines? If so, Group Policy might apply...

    Thank you. This at least gives me hope that it might be possible. I could also change the setting to "Every time I start Internet Explorer" as well as "Automatically."

    I might have found the answer, but unfortunately can't actually test it because the system is so locked down. What I found as a Registry setting:

    [HKEY_CURRENT USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings]
    "SyncMode5"=dword:00000004

    The other dword settings are:

    0 = Never
    2 = Every time you start internet explorer
    3 = Every visit to the page.
    4 = Automatically

    Have tried, but don't haven't been able to unlock their Browser yet to view the Graphic interface to verify it has been changed.
