I went to a bachelor party last night for a friend of mine. It was put on by his sister, who will be his "best man" at the wedding in a couple of weeks.
My daughter just got engaged. They haven't set a date yet, but my son is going to be in her bridal party.
Anyone else seeing changes like this?

Bad parenting; likely mommy and daddy experienced the 60's drug culture first hand. :-D

Hi Star. In my buddy's case it's his third marriage. Maybe he's trying something different this time. As for my daughter, bad parenting could apply. However, you got the decade wrong. It was the 70's for me.;)
If my son shows up in a bridesmaid dress, I WILL post a picture.:-D

    @sibeer,

He could wear a kilt and that would cover everything.:-D

    That's a plan but I don't know about covering everything. It's a wedding and he might "gator".:-o

He lives in Vancouver, and a couple of years ago he dressed up as a girl and went out to a popular nightclub. There was a long lineup when he got there. The bouncer at the door said, "You've got big stones buddy" and let him in.
I hope he doesn't see this as a way to get what he wants. Disturbing.;)

Time to revise the old song:
    I want a girl
    Just like the girl
    That my sister married today...

I could make a comment. A comment rife with knowledgeable words and comments on redefined gender roles in the new millenium. That would show time and effort and research. So instead:

He's going to be in the bridal party? Pity him, listening to all the girls talk about how ugly the dresses make them look. If she's truly cruel, she'll have a pink pastel suit for him to wear.

Meh, I see things like this a lot, actually. It's the born in the 80s+ generation. They're weird and they just don't give a rats ***, so they all break tradition in exactly the same way so they can be individuals like everyone else :p

    So far I've seen:
Reversed genders on best man/maid of honor
reversed genders on the entire wedding party
The bride wearing colors and everyone else wearing white
The bride wearing colors, or something short and skanky
The bride wearing the tux and the groom wearing the dress
And.. crap can't remember the last one. I know I had one more

Basically they just say screw tradition and do whatever they want since most of them are planning to get divorced in 5years or less anyway :p

I don't see anything wrong with it. I mean...if I were to get married I'd be pretty much screwed trying to find more than one woman I like well enough to have in my bridal party, as all my closest friends are men. Who says you have to have traditional roles in a wedding party? Some arbitrary outdated rule made by someone I don't know and could care less about? Nope, not for me. I also would never change my name, and any children I might have would be given my last name.

Basically, I look at it this way: More power to them if they actually want to go through the circus of getting married in the first place, far be it from me to tell them they can't do it in a way that will make them happy and make their special day memorable. If I don't tell them how to live their lives, hopefully they won't tell me how to live mine.

Yeah ditto, I'd rather live in sin. Divorces are expensive. Plus.. i don't like anyone that much :p

Amazing how people seem to split up before 5 years in the US,nothing to do with the 5 year time limit on prenups of courserolleyes

Everyone seems to wants to be different so its 'special' but in being different are exactly the same as all the other different weddings?

You could get married in a live volcano and have a honeymoon in space and you'd still be the 50th couple to do it and the billionth to get married:cool

If everyone eloped, there'd probably be less divorces. :-D

The only person I've seen do that was my brother in law and he had his twin sister as his 'best man'. i thought that made sense.

If I had to choose a best man it would be one of my brothers too, which one though:confused

Not me, if I were getting married it's a one time for life shot. But society seems to feel marriage is disposable as of late. It's kind of disgusting.

I was reading this one article.. maybe it was a show, it was a while ago... about these people that threw these disgustingly expensive weddings, and they divorced really soon. So it did the math and it turned out that based on how long they were together they paid like $1300/day for their wedding.

I'm with LauraR, people need to just elope if they're actually in love.

I did wedding photography for a number of years. Always got a chuckle when at a Wedding Show, people would walk by and look at my portraits and then comment, "But half of these people are divorced!!" LOL. Yup, most were right out of high school.

Well, I agree with you about the lack of consideration of fidelity in a marriage. As a married man myself (it's a girl TimW...you freak) and having come from a family where my father cheated on my mother, well, I vowed to never do that to anyone. I was nearly 30 before I married because I like you, believed if I am doing this, it's for life.
