First off, I did a search and could not find what I was looking for or maybe used the wrong combination of words for searching.

I bought my son a new gaming computer and I am taking over his old Compaq Presario (circa 2003) w/ XP home and p4. I now have a older (circa 2000) Dell Dimension 800r w/ XP home and p3.

Is there an easy way to transfer my data and programs?

I was planning to do a reformat to get his stuff off.

Since both computers have win xp you will be able to use the file transfer wizard, but you will have to have a serial modem cable to hook both computers up to each other. If you look under acessories and then system tools you will find what you need. There is also a tutorial on hoe to do this once you click on the file transfer wizard it is the blue link that says connecting computers.

Thanks to all for all of the input. I totally forgot about the file transfer wizard. I'll try that and see how it works.

    Thanks again!
