Suggestion: So many people get so much great help here for free. How about a suggested charity donation when probs are solved? Perhaps we could have a vote on a new charity every three/six Months with details posted of how to donate?

Seems th eleat we could all do, dontcha think?

Well, us DCers are always donating our CPU cycles to charity, and (whenever I can) I encourage people to join us and fold or whatever.

The research we are doing goes towards understanding cancer. It's a donation more direct than simply financial (money doesn't do science, people do).

Understand. Good point. However, feel that it is more likely to be the full on Geeks (experts) who are doing this, and the idea would be that those of us who are gaining from all your expertise, and not necessarily contributing via DC ing could make a financial contribution to good causes? Agree that it is people, not money that does the work, but those people need financial resources to be paid and equipped as well.

Can only repeat, there seem to be loads of us, benefitting from a relative handful of super Geeks (that's super in both senses), and just thought it might be a nice way to say thank you, and make a small difference.

I disagree with that statement, I am far from a "full on Geek". My little 1 gig P3 Dell only turns out one WU a week but any little bit helps, and what better way to return the favor of helping fix your PC than to put it to work for their cause? :) ;)

O.K. Maybe this is going no where. Just thought I'd fly a kite - not very good at that either!!

well, dont take it like that, you do have an idea, for those that would rather donate cash.
If you feel that way, stick to it and make it so ;)

Nothing intrinsically wrong with your idea and it's not being dissed in any way.

However the folding thingie is an MG thing, the more the better, and on a less altruistic/precautionary note there can be a little kudos in results.

As to charity MG has, in the past, had joint efforts to help specific people or families and why not?

Donating bandwidth or processing power that your machine is not using seems a good way to do that. As goldfish remarked money doesn't do science, although it can rule it! We can lift a little of the load and provide direct help.

    Very nice thought though:D

No offence taken. Too thick skinned to be wounded. Just feel it needs active and reasonable level of support tofly. Bit of market testing if you like, and so far not flying off the shelves.

Sorry if thick, but don't understand this bit?

I think that MG should have a place somewhere on the website for donations to the site itself, but I dont think the members here should be rewarded. Our goal is for 100% voluntary work.

    LOL.

I seem to remember MA saying a while ago "The day you see a paypal button on our website is the day you know we're desparate." or words to that effect :p

In the past we have come together to help specific causes (for example, the Lemon family) and last year's "Bash Kodo" event :p I think all we need is a cause that enough of us care about to donate to.
